    A coding and billing specialist helps the to manage insurance claims, invoices, and payments. The day-to-day work of a medical coding and billing specialist includes:

    Medical Terminology

    To code properly, a basic understanding of medical terminology is essential. This includes anatomy and physiology terms, diagnosis and procedural terminology, etc.

    Basic Math Skills

    Candidate must be able to do basic arithmetic to determine the proper billing amounts. While the billing system may automatically populate forms with the proper amounts for insurance claims based on the codes entered, you may need to calculate the remaining amounts due from patients or set up payment plans where applicable.

    Computer Skills

    The medical billing and coding process requires a working knowledge of computer systems and relevant medical software. The ability to learn new programs is also a plus.

    Communication Skills

    Part of the medical billing process may involve contacting patients for payment. The ability to communicate effectively and professionally is necessary for this aspect of the job. Some patients may be stressed, upset, or angry when faced with medical problems and a large bill, so good communication skills can help make these conversations a little easier.

    Use of Basic Office Equipment

Case Manager - RN

 

Hours: Mon-Fri 7am-3:30pm

Description:  Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Perform concurrent admission and continued stay reviews according to SCKMC utilization review policy and procedure.

  • Perform and document discharge planning according to SCKMC discharge planning policy and procedure (by next business day in the patient's room). 

  • Identify patients at risk for readmission and strengthen discharge plan accordingly. 

  • Identify and utilize community resources as necessary.

  • Arrange for CARE Assessment when required prior to a skilled nursing facility. 

  • Provide initial and continued stay verbal clinical reviews to insurance providers upon request to ensure pre-certification and continued stay approval for patient's hospital stay. 

  • Provide on-line clinical review via multi-payor website (currently Availity) every business day. 

  • Issue Medicare-required notices to beneficiaries (observation/acute inpatient/swingbed) according to CMS regulations.

  • Initiate Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI) functions.

    • Verify chief complaint is principal diagnosis and enter in Electronic Medical Record (EMR) of each inpatient, observation patient, and outpatient surgery patient recovering on an inpatient unit. 

    • Update problem list to reflect active problems, including complications and comorbidities (CC) and major complications and comorbidities (MCC).

    • Confirm History and Physical Exam report is completed within 24 hours of admission.  If not, contact attending physician to complete. 

    • Level of care (LOC)

      • Confirm LOC ordered is accurate according to CMS regulation and/or evidence-based criteria set.  If not, consult attending physician to consider LOC change.

      • Confirm LOC ordered is accurately reflected in patient's registration. 

  • Verify CMS Quality Measure screening/audit tools have been correctly initiated and protocols followed. 

  • Complete and transmit the Minimum Data Set (MDS) for all swing bed patients timely.

  • Refer private pay patients to SCKMC financial counselor. 

  • Contact discharged patients to assess general health status, confirm compliance with discharge plan, and review actions to be taken when future medical issues arise.

  • Advocate for patients.

  • Maintain confidentiality.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

License: BSN from an accredited school of nursing and Kansas state Registered Nursing licensure

Education: Maintain license by meeting KS licensing board CEU requirements (currently 30 CEU’s every 2 years.)

Experience: Three years in a like position in a like-sized facility preferred

1. Responsible for prompt, courteous reception and processing of all patients presenting themselves for treatment. Complete registration documents for ER patients. Records all patients seen on registration logs.

Medical Staff Coordinator

Summary:

Under limited supervision, the Medical Staff Coordinator serves as an essential link and resource between senior management and medical staff to coordinate the operational processes and ongoing credentialing, privileging, and medical staff governance functions of the Office of Clinical Affairs. Responsible for review, analysis and follow up of credentialing and privileging applications, maintaining strict confidentiality, and ensuring compliance with organizational policies and accrediting and regulatory agencies.

 

Position Requirements

 

·         Coordination and documentation of the Medical Staff and  Medical Executive meetings.

·         Develop and communicate agendas for above meetings to appropriate SCKMC staff, medical staff, and other providers. 

·         Must possess sensitivity in understanding employees' needs while maintaining a sense of balance to ensure that staffing requirements are met for the facility.

·         Responsible for the timely and thorough credentialing and privileges of all medical staff and other providers. 

·         Act as a liaison between MPR and the facility.

·         Serve as the form’s developer and manager for facility.

SONOGRAPHER - PRN
Ultrasound Technologist

Description:

  • Handles and processes radiology and ultrasound orders utilizing the computer system in an efficient manner.
  • Is able to manage workload demands by organizing and prioritizing.
  • Has the ability to maintain mature and professional behavior under the stress of heavy workload and acute patient care situations.
  • Has the ability to maintain concentration with frequent interruptions.
  • Transports patients ranging in age from newborn to geriatric for ultrasound procedures.
  • Correctly initiates and performs all ultrasound procedures required at South Central Kansas Medical Center under the supervision of the radiologist and/or ordering physician.
  • Always utilizes safe work practices while imaging patients.
  • Is able to recognize, identify and perform procedural or technical problems in radiology areas. Knows when to contact technical service or the Clinical Engineer.
  • May act as the lead tech for an assigned area, which includes monitoring Quality Control, equipment operation and maintenance of the individual imaging modalities.
  • Helps in the responsibility of keeping procedure manuals up to date.
  • Responsible for supplies and watching costs in assigned area.
  • Is responsible for weekend operations.
  • Assists with orientation of new employees and competency assessment of all ultrasound employees.

Qualifications:
Education: Associates degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school.
Certifications: Certifications in Ultrasound, OB, Vascular and Echocardiography within one year of hire date
Experience: one-year preferred.

Temperature Screener - PRN

Description:

  • Checking temperatures at entrances and asking health related questions.
  • Staff will have the opportunity to sit for their shift

 

Mask compliance is required

 

Available shifts include:

Fri-Sun 5:15 PM to 7:30 PM.

Mon-Fri 5:00 AM to 8:30 AM.

Sat-Sun 5:00 AM to 7:30 AM.

Position: Med-Surg Ward Clerk

Description:

Full-time, days, CNA preferred

  1. Performs chart maintenance, including filing the hard copy of reports under correct section in the medical record binders, and assists the physicians and nurses in keeping current information on the chart.
     
  2. Answers incoming phone calls and either forwards them on to the appropriate person or relays communication effectively and in a timely manner. Pages providers properly, to include exact # the provider is to use to return the call

  3. Checks level of care on all admission orders with appropriate follow-up action

  4. Completes Daily charges for all  patients when applicable.
     
  5. Demonstrates ability to enter physician and nursing orders into the computer.
     
  6. Sets up telemetry as ordered, and runs strips as ordered/per protocol.

  7. Assist in breakdown of patient rooms after dismissals when needed.  Assist in setting up room patient rooms for new admits when needed.

  8. Attends inservice education programs as assigned.  Attends unit meetings monthly
    .
  9. Assist Outpatient Services with scheduling and patient appointment calls

  10. Maintains current knowledge to perform job to quality standards; knowledge of universal precautions, knowledge of infection control plan.

  11. Works cooperatively with all staff and other departments.

  12. Responds to emergency situations throughout the hospital as need depending on the individual’s skills and experience.

 

Qualifications

Certifications:  BLS.

Education: High School or equivalent

Experience: Minimum experience in CPSI preferred but not required; ability to work with computers

Reporting Relationship

Department Manger/Supervisor:

Charge Nurse; Nurse Manager; DON; CEO

Immediate Reports:

RN; LPN; Charge Nurse

Interrelationships:

Must work closely with all nurse staff, CNAs, Physicians.  Necessity for positive rapport with patients, family, etc.

 

Working Conditions

Works in a patient care area 100% of the time.  Job responsibilities require frequent exposure to noise, lighting, and / or temperature levels.  Exposure to irritating, unpleasant, or hazardous materials.  Subject to varying and unpredictable situation, emergency or crisis situations.   Occasional pressure due to multiple calls and inquiries.

How the bonus program works.
South Central Kansas Medical Center will pay you a "recruitment bonus" if your lead results in the permanent placement of a healthcare professional.
Bonus amount varies based upon the medical specialty being recruited:
 
$500 - Registered Nurse
$1,500 - Physical or Occupational Therapist
$2,500 - Mid-Level Practitioner (Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner)
$5,000 - Physician
 
Bonus will be paid in two installments. The first half will be paid upon the recruited party successfully completes 90 days of employment through SCKMC or an affiliated clinic.
The second half will be paid after the recruited party successfully completes nine months of employment through SCKMC or an affiliated clinic.
 
Employees or affiliates of SCKMC are not eligible for bonus. Bonus will be provided only to first person to submit a candidates name.
